Low Cost Flights to Alicante and Valencia

Low cost flights to Spain are available from a number of different airlines. The closest airports for our villa rental are Alicante and Valencia which are both just over an hour away.

Skycanner Comparison Site

We find the Skycanner comparison site a good tool to search for low cost flights to Spain as it is easy to search for a month at a time and see which days have the cheapest flights. Often, the cheapest flights in each direction may be from differnt airlines and Skycanner helps identify this.

Monarch

At the moment, Monarch is probably our favourite low-cost airline to fly to and from Spain.

What we particularly like about Monarch is that you are allocated a seat at check-in or (for an optional charge) can choose one while booking. Although seat pitch is a little smaller than other airlines you can upgrade this. We've also found that check-in times are normally less than, for example, Ryanair.

Ryanair

Arguably the best known low-cost airline, Ryanair have consistently low prices to Alicante though have threatened to pull out of flights to Valencia over a dispute about airport fees.

As with most low-cost airlines, expect to pay more for any hold-luggage and watch for other restrictions on how much hand luggage you can take on board too (and in some cases, whether or not you can even take hold-luggage at all!) There are also rumous of a £1 charge to use the toilets!

Cheap and cheerful, you can what you pay for and usually have longer to wait to check-in. Seats are not pre-allocated, though are slightly more roomy than Monarch.

Easyjet

Easyjet is another low-cost airline that doesn't pre-allocate seats. You only have a choice of what is available once you board the plane which may not be suitable if you are a couple of family with young children and want to sit together.

We've not travelled on an Easyjet flight for a while, but have always found their staff very jolly and friendly.

British Airways

Usually the most expensive option, we always think that it's sometimes worth the extra to fly with British Airways. Of all the airlines we've used, the leather seats are more roomy and comfortable than any of the other low-cost airlines and seats are pre-allocated at check-in, or during on-line booking.

For a more luxurious trip, it's worth comparing the prices and if the difference is not too great, upgrading to a British Airways flight.

NOTE: British Airways does not currently fly to Valencia, citing being unable to compete with low-cost-airlines as the main reason. With the possibility that Ryanair will not fly to Valencia, it would be worth looking out for BA resuming flights to Valencia.
