Javea Restaurant Guide

Our Javea restaurant guide makes the difficult task of selecting where to eat or drink in one of the many Javea restaurants just a little bit easier with our own personal recommendations and suggestions! There are so many places spread over the Arenal, Javea Port and the Old Town that you could visit somewhere different every day of the year and still not have tried all that's on offer.

Here, we've concentrated on listing our own favourite Javea restaurants and bars to ensure you have a pleasant dining experience whatever the occasion. We'd like to apologise to the many other fine restaurants that haven't made the list yet but this is a page that we plan to update regularly so if you feel that your restaurant deserves to be on our list, please send us the details and if after sampling your menu we agree, we'll be happy to consider adding an entry.

Restaurante El Tropezon - Javea Old Town

Restaurante el Tropezon This typically Spanish tapas bar and restaurant is in the heart of Javea Old Town, down a pedestrian street (Calle Tosal De Dalt 3) opposite the Correos (Post Office) and just before you get to the main church square.

Both Spanish and English are spoken but the menu is very typically Spanish so El Tropezon is an ideal venue for sampling some traditional Spanish food with the shark and extremely tender beef cheeks highly recommended among the vast range of excellent tapas on offer. (Note: their goat cutlets are also worth trying too and they've recently added a range of deserts!)

The restaurant is open all day, but it's advisable to make a booking at weekends or during fiestas. email: RestauranteElTropezon@hotmail.com

Lungo Mare

We think Lungo Mare is going to send shock-waves of delight through those diners that choose this new Italian venue on the Arenal.

Sylvia, who runs the Restaurant / Pizzeria, is very confident they'll need to do little advertising and that word of mouth will be all that they need. Judging by their trade in the first few days since opening, she's absolutely right!

We were impressed at lunch, even on their first day when teething problems might have been expected - and were pleased to see it busy but unflustered during the evening too where the traditional oven takes centre stage and is clearly visible (and glowing) from the Arenal.

Unfortunately, despite their business cards promoting a web site that doesn't yet seem to be available, so for more information give them a call on 966 47 11 96

Those who have been watching to find out what replaces the Christopher Colon will be pleasantly impressed by Lungo Mare which will give other Italian venues in the town a run for their money.

El Rancho

El Rancho family restaurant in Javea The El Rancho has quickly become a firm favourite since being taken over and run as a family concern. The staff and management are very friendly and helpful and we're drawn back to El Rancho time and time again.El Rancho Restaurant at Christmas 2008

Their Sunday roasts, served all day, are very popular and they have an extensive menu with children's options and plenty of high chairs too! For £7.95 of £3.95 for children it's hard to beat. But their open during the week too and offers a nice retreat in pleasant surrounding for a morning coffee or afternoon tea.

Although on the main Ctra Cabo La Nao road, they're at the very southern end of the town, on the way to the lighthouse itself - but close to the Saladar supermarket. It's not difficult to miss their signs on both sides of the road where there's usually plenty of parking too.

The picture above was taken after our Christmas meal in December 2008 and as you can see there are lovely areas outside to eat or plenty of room inside too, but we think it's well worth booking to ensure a table - and extra yorkshire puddings! Telephone: 965 770 439

La Boheme Tapas, Arenal Beach, Javea

La Boheme - Arenal Beach

La Boheme, Arenal Beach, Javea One of several restaurants owned by the same group, we like La Boheme for their special tapas formula which allows you to select three tapas from their menu for under €5. (Although we usually also have some of their bread and alioli on top of this). Our favourites include the lamb, russian salad and squid but there's plenty to choose from.

La Bohemme also offers a more formal a la carte of snacks and dishes including Salmon a la Salsa de Frambuesa (Salmon in a strawberry sauce) which is exceptionally good and, as with all their dishes, very well presented.

La Boheme is air-conditioned and right on the Arenal Beach offering fine dining and great views of the beach and sea. Contact: 96 579 1600

Attico Restaurant - Javea Port

Attico Restaurant, Javea Port Although not open all-year-round, the Attico Restaurant on the 5th floor of Hotel Javea must surely offer the best sea-view of any restaurant in Javea.

At lunch time, watch the surfers ride the waves in the bay of Javea while at night-time the Attico is the perfect place for a romantic meal (and a great vantage point for fireworks during the town's fiestas).

Cost and elegant, the Attico isn't overly expensive and at last check was under €25 per person. Contact: 96 646 3455

Los Remos La Nao - Arenal Beach

Restaurante Los Remos La Nao, Arenal, Javea Coming up to it's 20th year anniversary el restaurante Los Remos La Nao is recommended by many as the best Javea restaurant.

Los Remos La Nao goodThis isn't your 'visit once a week' restaurant (unless you can afford it!) but does offer a truly exceptional gastronomical experience.

Recently refurbished, (raised) tables overlook the Arenal beach with views up to Javea port and beyond to the Cap San Antonio lighthouse.

Although reknown for their fresh fish and seafood dishes there are plenty of meat dishes to choose from too. But don't forget to leave room for desert! Contact: 96 647 0776

El Mono Loco - Arenal Beach

Sadly now closed, El Mono Loco on the Avenida Libertad was a unique barbeque experience where your table also housed a full gas BBQ and you could cook a range of meats and vegetables to your exact liking.

Formerly the Ivy House, we look forward to new owners taking on this popular venture in the future and will miss the crazy monkey logo in the window!

UPDATE: We are delighted to see the venue re-open as Glamour. We've not yet re-visited but will post an update when we have. A quick inspection seems to suggest that the BBQ tables have gone though.
